Dr Carolyn Pritchett, PhD, joins Groov as Head of Neuroscience

Carolyn joins Groov to support customers as they develop and engage a culture of wellbeing in their workplace.

Dr Carolyn Pritchett is a neuroscientist and wellbeing coach with years of experience studying the impact of stress and positive psychology and putting her research into practice as a coach and wellbeing specialist. 

After years of academic service in the United States, Carolyn moved into the field of wellbeing coaching, serving clients from the USA, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

With a passion for workplace wellbeing, Carolyn provides coaching and scientific expertise to the Groov team and customers. 

“From a scientific and research perspective, I’ve always been fascinated by stress. And wellbeing is, in some ways, the opposite of stress – so it’s an area I’m really passionate about,” says Carolyn.

“I’m also super passionate about people. I loved being a professor to my students, I loved being a coach, and now I get to work with customers at Groov. The only thing better than doing this work alone is doing it with other people!”

What will you be working on as Groov’s Head of Neuroscience?

I’m here to serve our customers as they develop and engage in a culture of wellbeing in their workplace. As part of the customer success team, and working closely with the behavioural science team, I support our customers to successfully implement Groov’s wellbeing technology platform.

Day-to-day, this role is incredibly varied. I’m working on upgrading the Groov Ambassador Programme, supporting Dr Fiona Crichton with behavioural science, and speaking with customers. There’s a high chance you’ll run into me soon either on a call, in-person, or at an event!

Where did you study?

I have a Bachelors in Psychology with Honors from Samford University,, a Masters in Psychology from the University of Missouri, and a PhD in Neuroscience from The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. 

While undertaking my postdoctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania, I began my journey with Positive Psychology and the science behind wellbeing. I’ve also undertaken studies on stress and meditation, and the impact each have on the human body and mind.

How do you look after your own wellbeing?

Getting out in nature is what recharges me. I love hiking. My favourite track in New Zealand is the Milford Track, but the Queen Charlotte Track is pretty spectacular too.

I’m also a water bug – I love water sports of all kinds, especially paddle boarding and swimming.

Plus, I’m an avid, avid fan of dogs. I love all dogs! I love spending time with my own two dogs, and those of my friends. 

If there’s one thing you want people to remember about workplace wellbeing, what would it be?

It’s supposed to be enjoyable! If you’re not enjoying it, you may need to change it up, so start experimenting. What worked last week or month might not work today, and that’s OK! At Groov, we call this meeting you – and your people – where they’re at.
